What to avoid
Like any other country, Republic of the Congo has its own set of laws and unspoken rules, and the lack of their knowledge will not absolve you from responsibility in case you are ever caught doing what you weren’t supposed to do. Please, heed the short list of rules to keep your Congo trip safe, enjoyable, and problem-free.
You are not allowed to bring:
- Firearms, ammunition;
- Coins, commemorative coins, bank notes, and second-hand materials intended for investment;
- Pornographic materials;
- Water hyacinths.
Prohibited behaviour:
- Taking pictures in public places without a local permit;
- Homosexuality, while not outlawed explicitly, can attract unwanted attention and even harassment.
