Jean-Claude Gakosso entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria in Vienna, at 15:30. There he met his counterpart from the Republic of Austria, H.E. Mr. Alexander Schallenberg. It was the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmeia.gv.at\/en\/the-ministry\/press\/news\/2023\/03\/congolese-foreign-minister-visits-foreign-minister-schallenberg-in-vienna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>official visit by a Congolese foreign minister to Austria<\/strong><\/a> since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1960.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-79ef365 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"79ef365\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>During their meeting, the two ministers reviewed the various aspects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of common interest. They expressed their common desire to strengthen political dialogue and to develop economic, cultural, and scientific exchanges between Congo and Austria.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-29828e6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"29828e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The two ministers also discussed challenges related to peace and security in Central Africa, including the situation in the Central African Republic, South Sudan, and the Great Lakes region. They hailed the mediation efforts of Congolese President Denis Sassou-Nguesso, who holds the current chairmanship of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) and the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7310301 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7310301\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Other topics addressed were global issues such as climate change, the fight against terrorism, the promotion of human rights, and multilateralism. They reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and their support for initiatives aimed at reforming the Security Council to make it more representative and more effective.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eb13a0d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eb13a0d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>At the end of their meeting, the two ministers signed a framework cooperation agreement between Congo and Austria, which aims to facilitate the implementation of joint projects in various fields such as energy, infrastructure, agriculture, education, health and even culture. They also agreed to intensify contacts between parliamentary institutions, the business community, and civil society actors of the two countries.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-356637c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"356637c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/republic-congo.com\/en\/politics\/minister-of-foreign-affairs\/\"><strong>Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso<\/strong><\/a> expressed his satisfaction with the success of his visit, which opened a new page in relations between Congo and Austria. He invited his counterpart Alexander Schallenberg to pay a return visit to Congo as soon as possible.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div
